Cooking With Kids: Not-From-a-Box Macaroni and Cheese [RECIPE]

Good Afternoon Everyone!

Happy Friday!! ❀ Just sliding in here real fast with today’s recipe of cooking with kids. The Noob Chef Junior cooked this macaroni and cheese without any struggles. (Although she is already a pro at mac and cheese since she made up her own kimchi mac and cheese! Hehe!). This batch was tasty, but I was mostly impressed with how healthy it was. The noodles were whole wheat rotini which tasted delicious and it was loaded with peas and carrots! What a yummy win! So grab your little one and head on into the kitchen and give this simple recipe a try. I think you’ll find that mac and cheese tastes much better when not from a box πŸ˜‰ . Not-From-a-Box Macaroni and CheeseΒ 

Serves: 4


  • 1 (16 ounce) box whole wheat rotini (spiral) pasta
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups Mexican blend cheese, or any cheese of your preference
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small bag frozen peas and carrots bag (Note: We used a microwavable frozen steamer bag kind to make it easier)


Grab all of your ingredients.


Get a pot boiling with water and cook your spiral pasta until tender. Ours took about 10 minutes.


Drain the pasta. Turn the heat back on to medium-low and add in the milk, butter, and cheese. Mix, mix, mix until it’s creamy and looking delicious!

Meanwhile microwave the frozen veggies according to the steam-bag directions. Ours took 5 minutes and was done. Add in the vegetables to the cheesy pasta. Mix and eat! Enjoy! πŸ™‚
