Cooking With Kids: Germ Ninjas & 2- Ingredient Scones [RECIPE]

All week I have been a germ ninja. Parents, you know how it is. Your child gets the common cold and suddenly you go from snuggles to dodging sneezes and dousing yourself in a bucket of hand sanitizer. You beg, plead, and pray that you don’t get sick. Your washer and dryer goes into overdrive as you clean every linen with possible contaminants and then suddenly… it happens. When you least expect it, those beautiful eyes look at you like a pair of cross hairs. Their arms stretch out and charge you, full-on, for an enormous hug. Normally this would be the highlight of your day but with their nose running and a cough for days all you can think is…


Suddenly their body crashes into you. They squeeze you tight and instinctively you hug them back…. and then it happens. ACHOO! They sneeze… right. on. you. You can feel the germs invading your body. Alarms blare in your brain and you quickly write down a grocery list with everything from orange juice to cough drops, and of course… Vicks. You’re going to need it. “Sorry mom!” they chirp and skip away. Yes, this is my reality today. The germs got me. I out ninja-ed them for days, people… days! And then today I woke up with a stuffy nose and scratchy throat. *sighs* But I digress.

Despite our health being sub-par this week we have been bustling in the kitchen here and there with simple recipes for kids. Last night we made a batch of scones. Here in America we call them biscuits, but in the UK and Australia they would be known as scones. I think I’ll call them scones 🙂 I like that word better. So these 2 ingredient scones are delicious, tasty, easy, and really fun to make with your child. The Noob Chef Junior loved making these from start to finish. It took us about 20 minutes total and we made a dozen so she had leftovers for brekkie this morning. I honestly can’t tell you how they taste so good… but trust me when I say that once you try these piping hot out of the oven with a pat of jam or butter… you won’t want it any other way. 2-Ingredient Scones

Makes: 1 dozen


  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream (also called thickening cream in the UK and AU)


Grab your ingredients.


Mix the flour and cream together until it forms a sticky pliable dough.


Roll out the dough leaving it about 1 and 1/2 inches thick


Cut out scones with a drinking glass or biscuit cutter. (Make sure your scones are nice and thick!)


Bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees (C)/ 400 degrees (F) for 15 minutes.

Remove from oven.


Eat while hot with your favorite jam, butter, or cream. Enjoy! 🙂
