The Elvis Presley Sandwich and Blackouts [RECIPE]
Good Morning Everyone!
A very happy Friday to you! I hope you are as excited for the weekend as I am. What an adventure I had last night. Have you ever had a night all planned out, only for something unexpected to happen, and then you have to completely change your plans? That was me last night. I had planned to have an at-home spa night with Mr. Noob Chef. I laid out fluffy towels and pulled out every bath and body product I own. I plugged in my electronic facial scrubber thingy and was excited to unwind to soft music and suds with my love. And then… we had a complete power outage.
Now the Noob Chef Jr. isn’t a fan of being in the dark… at all. So all of a sudden I heard, “MOM! There’s no light!!”. Yes love, I know. Cue me pulling out every holiday candle I own and lighting all 13 of them on our coffee table. The funny part was it happened right before I was set to make dinner. “Now how am I going to make this sandwich for my blog without having electricity for the stove?” I pondered. And then… I laughed. In fact, the whole family did. We pretended like we were living on a homestead. We cranked open the windows and marveled at how quiet our neighborhood became without all the lights and sounds buzzing from the windows.
“Let’s have a picnic!” I said excitedly. Normally I’m not a spur-of-the-moment kind of gal, but this was definitely the right time and place. My family looked at me surprised. Off we went to the grocery store to pick up several trays of sushi. As we said grace over our food, (I kid you not), seconds later our neighborhood was flooded with light as the power came back on. It was truly an incredible thing to see.
So we munched on sushi and then curled up to watch an episode of “Friends” on Netflix. Our bellies were far too full to have this sandwich last night. But…. this morning I woke up extra early to fill the house with the smell of bacon. Now my family sleeps so deep that usually a tornado could come plowing through and they would still be sound asleep. But fry some bacon and it was like waking the dead. With sleepy eyes and happy smiles they padded into the kitchen and beamed at me.
Yes, this sandwich is totally worth making in the morning. It was a favorite of the King of Rock and Roll himself, Elvis Presley. And y’all… I get why. He took a classic like PB & J and ramped it up 10 notches with bananas, bacon, and then frying the whole thing together! Hang on… I think I’m drooling again.
I could go on and on about how the peanut butter melts just a little, and so does the jam. I could make you swoon at how the salty, fatty bacon pairs perfectly with the sweet grape jelly… but honestly? You just have to try this one out for yourself! I promise it’s worth it. Have an amazing day everyone, and as always… keep on cooking ❤

Yields: 1 sandwich
- 2 slices of white bread
- 1 tbsp. peanut butter (crunchy or creamy is fine. The king preferred creamy)
- 1 tbsp. grape jelly
- 2 slices of bacon, fried
- 1/2 banana, sliced thin
- First fry the bacon in a deep skillet. Leave the bacon grease in the pan. Set the bacon aside. (Cut the pieces in half if you wish. It makes it easier to assemble the sandwich).
- Smear peanut butter and jelly on the pieces of bread. Lay the banana slices on the peanut butter and the bacon on the jelly side.
- Use a spatula to carefully put the open faced slices into the hot grease. Fry for 1-2 minutes. Remove from skillet. Flip the pieces together and eat! Enjoy!
