Vegan Ice Cream & The 7 Stages of Weight Loss
Good Morning Everyone!
It’s Friday!! Hooray for the end of the week! I wanted to share this delicious, low-calorie recipe with you as a treat before the weekend starts. Let’s face it: dieting is absolutely no fun. At the moment I am on a diet. I am restricting my calories and moderating everything I put into my mouth. Now I am no stranger to diets of every shape and kind. From an early age I have battled my weight and experienced a wide range of emotions in the process. So I thought today I would break those emotions and experiences down into 7 stages that I believe most people go through when on a diet. (Please take all of this with a smile and a laugh 😉 ).
Stage I. Withdrawal: You did it. You finally took the plunge and signed up at that weight loss center. Or you made the vow to cut out carbs. Or perhaps you’re chugging that nasty-tasting shake and thinking to yourself, “what the hell am I doing?!”. At this stage all you want to do is quit because everything feels out of whack. Don’t worry, this is normal. And yes, it does get better.
Stage II. Cravings: Anyone who tells you that you won’t have cravings while on their diet is lying dead to your face. We first eat with our eyes, not with our mouths. And food is everywhere! So yes, you may be eating spinach salad with mineral water. But your brain is thinking, “BACON! BACON! BACON!” Or… whatever food you desire.
Stage III. Mind Games: Dieting is like a mind game. You pump yourself up saying, “Yes I can do this!!” and jump right into it. Then when the first wave of hunger hits and you can only satisfy yourself with water until the next snack or meal, your mind falters a little. You might think, “okay… this isn’t so fun…” but you press on anyway. Know that the up and down of the mental battle of dieting is also completely normal. You just have to think positive and surround yourself with a positive support system.
Stage IV. Technology Overload: One of the hardest things about being on a diet is seeing food everywhere in the media. I click open the morning news and food adds are scattered between the articles. I watch TV and commercials for restaurants featuring sizzling deep-fried shrimp and loaded mashed potatoes fly across the screen. Food. Is. Everywhere. So what is the best way to protect yourself? Disconnect a bit if you can. I know that for a while I’m going to tune out the news. And Youtube food channels. And junk mail ads. You get the idea…
Stage V. Hallucinations: This one primarily is for crash dieting. Okay, so you need to lose 10 lbs. fast to fit into that dress before the wedding. Or you’re going on a hot date and want to have your tummy look as flat as possible ASAP. What do you do? Crash diet. (Yes, I know it’s unhealthy in the long run, but hey… we’ve all done it). So you do. You jump into that diet and restrict yourself hardcore. As your blood sugar level alters you begin to dream about food. People turn into your favorite treats and you find yourself wanting to lick your monitor as you gaze at #Foodie Pinterest boards.
Stage VI. Recovery: You did it! You actually stuck with that diet for a bit (and now you can cross that off your New Year’s Resolutions) and lost some weight. You’re probably feeling more stable and happier than ever. You begin to check yourself out in the mirror more, and maybe others have noticed your new physique. Whatever reason you decided to lose the weight, you’re finally here and starting to feel better. You’re not 100% but you have the hang of the “diet thing” down now. Just… don’t go near any buffets any time soon. 😉
Stage VII. Goal Weight: You’ve finally arrived at your “destination”, and reached your goal weight. You can run, jump, and feel better than ever! Now the real battle begins of maintaining your weight, but before you groan and feel depressed, pat yourself on the back because you just survived the 7 Stages of Weight Loss!! *High Fives*!!
And now, onto the recipe! 🙂
